A book featuring my illustrations of insects has been published.
It took me three and a half years to draw 50 insects.
Japan has a traditional form of short poetry called haiku.
Haiku consists of only 17 syllables.
It is written in a 5-7-5 syllable pattern.
Haiku must use seasonal words that represent the four seasons.
There are various seasonal words related to weather, plants, animals, events, etc.,
and insects are also one type of seasonal word.
This book is very interesting, with haiku poet Yuki Horimoto explaining 50 famous haiku poems that feature insects as seasonal words,
and me drawing 50 pictures of the insects that appear in the poems.
It is not bilingual, but I hope you will enjoy it as an illustrated guide to Japanese insects.
The title is
『六四五七五 虫の絵と俳句』.
Translated as "64575: Insect drawings and haiku poems".
The Japanese word for insect is ”mushi”. The number 6 is pronounced ”mu”, and 4 is pronounced ”shi”. Therefore, 64 represents mushi, or insect!
Incidentally, I love insects, so I have registered my car with the license plate number 6464:D
Available for purchase from Amazon Japan.
Thank you!
